What exactly is the difference?

Sustainability vs. Circularity

Everyone knows the term sustainability these days, but what exactly do we mean by it and what is circularity again?

It's not that complicated. Sustainability ultimately aims to meet the needs of current generations without compromising the quality of life of future generations, and above all, it takes ecological aspects into account.

Circularity is a concrete concept for implementing sustainability. It focuses on reuse and a closed resource cycle. This means that products are designed so that the individual components can be reused directly at the end of the product's life cycle.

Cradle to Cradle certification
A C2C certification is one of the highest accolades a piece of furniture can receive in terms of sustainability. It's worth looking for products with this seal.
Find out about manufacturers
It can be worthwhile to take a closer look at the furniture manufacturer. Manufacturers like Steelcase, for example, offer recycling for many of their chairs.

Our most sustainable products

There are many ways to create sustainable furniture. Through a particularly long service life through high-quality workmanship or circularity, through low-emission production, or through the use of recycled materials. Here you'll find an overview of the various strategies our manufacturers use to increase the sustainability of their products.

Bene EQUO

With the EQUO office chair, Bene relies on a completely new concept: a fully modular office chair. This means that every part can be easily disassembled, cleaned, and replaced at home if necessary. This significantly reduces material consumption and wear and tear.

In addition, the EQUO relies on 100% European materials.

Steelcase office chairs

Steelcase has also been emission-free since 2020, holds the EU Ecolabel, and enables many of its office chairs to be reintegrated into the product cycle.

The Vitra Physix is a particularly sustainable piece of furniture thanks to its high recycled content. It is made from 55% recycled materials and is 98% recyclable.

The high quality of the material also guarantees a long service life, making the chair economically sustainable.

System 180 DT Line

System 180 uses exclusively green electricity for the production of its furniture at its Berlin location, 20% of which is covered by the company's own solar panels. This makes System 180 one of the most sustainable companies in Europe.

In addition, the packaging of all furniture is made from recycled material.

Carpets from Object Carpet

The yarn for Object Carpet's rugs is made from 100% recycled plastic. Combined with the low-waste production process, this makes the rugs a product with an excellent environmental footprint.

Object Carpet has also been investing heavily in the development of circular furnishing programs for years.

A good path into the future

Why circularity is important

The threat to our planet posed by the degradation of natural systems is acute and existential. Resource depletion, fossil fuels, and littering are the driving forces behind this threat. Circularity comes in precisely here. By reusing materials and components, emissions are reduced, unnecessary waste is avoided, and the amount of resources required is dramatically reduced.

But circularity also has very concrete economic advantages. Products from and in a circular economy are significantly more cost-effective because they only undergo part of the usual production cycle and save massive amounts of material. This is further enhanced when the manufacturer offers the refurbishment of specific individual products, as in the case of Steelcase.

The image a company presents of itself has never been more important than in the age of information and social media. A concrete commitment to circularity has the potential to not only increase external perception of your company but also improve the working atmosphere within it. Programs that support sustainability also increase employee satisfaction.
